Halloween is over, and year by year it’s getting more and more popular in Hungary, especially among children and young people. Carving pumpkins was known in rural areas long before the foreign tradition has brought a lot of excitement to the last days of October. In the same time, we have many informal, slang expressions that sound like “pumpkin,” but have a completely different origin. Discover them and have fun!

„Pumpkin” related words:
-sütőtök: pumpkin,
-töklámpás: jack-o'-lantern,
-tökfaragás: carving the pumpkin,
-tökleves: pumpkin soup.
And here are some slang and naughty words:
-tök jó: perfectly good, (tökéletesen jó),
-tök mindegy: it doesn’t matter, it is totally unimportant,
-tök cuki: perfectly cute, (tökéletesen aranyos),
-tök menő, tök király: perfectly cool, (tökéletesen vagány),
-tökös: someone who has the „balls”, someone brave,
-töketlen: someone cowardly,
-Ne tökölődj! Ne tökölj! –Stop wasting the time! Hurry up!
-Ne töketlenkedj! -Stop acting cowardly! Be efficient!
